Now I'm Interested In "American Soccer"

Thus far, I have found American "soccer", mostly the MLS league, to be very dull and boring.
I was unaware that Women's College soccer was televised, let alone college soccer; and them i stumbled upon this video featuring a game between BYU & New Mexico. New Mexico's #15 Elizabeth Lambert is nuts!

Throwing elbows, punching in the back, tripping, hair pulling, kicking into someone's face and sucker punches? Sounds like a typical scrum between young siblings. Well, in the 2009 MWN semifinal match between BYU and New Mexico, there was no lipstick, no perfume and no fingernail polish. There was, however, good old fashioned chick fighting.

Check out the BYU's Kassidy Shumway (21) getting her bell rung (or neck snapped) by New Mexico's Elizabeth Lambert (15). I loved a good chick fight as much as the next guy, but That's the equivalent of a guy hitting below the belt.

2009-10-13: Dr Gary Null Speaking Out at the New York State Assembly Hearing. Dr Null gives an impassioned riveting testimony against the false beliefs about vaccines and their (non)safety, the vaccine industry, the CDC and the FDA, alleging scientific fraud, and crimes against humanity by the medical and profit-motivated pharmaceutical industry.

[Soure: Eureka Alert] - A team of academic, government and industry researchers has completed a first draft of the cassava (Manihot esculenta) genome. The project is an important first step in accelerating the pace of research on this subsistence crop and addressing some of the many limitations that face cassava farmers around the world.

Cassava is a root crop that serves as the primary food source for more than 750 million people each day. Although it has many properties that make it an important food across much of Africa and Asia, it also has many limitations. Cassava has poor nutritional content and is susceptible to many pathogens, particularly in Africa, where one third of the continental harvest is lost each year to viral diseases. One of these, Cassava Brown Streak Disease, or CBSD, is currently the major threat to food security in some parts of Eastern Africa.

In response to the urgency of this threat, and building upon the newly available cassava genome sequence, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded a $1.3 million grant to University of Arizona researchers who will lead an international consortium to develop a genome variation database that will provide breeding tools to aid farmers in improving cassava, with a special focus on increased resistance to the CBSD virus.

Complete Genomics publishes in Science on low-cost sequencing of 3 human genomes

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Nov. 5, 2009 - Complete Genomics, a third-generation human genome sequencing company, today announced publication of a report in the journal Science describing its proprietary DNA sequencing platform, including analysis of sequence data from three complete human genomes. The consumables cost for these three genomes sequenced on the proof-of-principle genomic DNA nanoarrays ranged from $8,005 for 87x coverage to $1,726 for 45x coverage for the samples described in this report.

I found this map to be very interesting. It is a comprehensive directory of Arizona firms, research institutes, educational institutions, research hospitals, and collaborating organizations. Taken from the Flinn Foundation website.

To view details for individual organizations or firms:

As you mouse over markers on the map, organization names appear. Click on a marker for more info about an organization. (Zoom in to see individual markers among clusters.)

To select particular categories of organizations or firms:

Use the legend in the upper right corner of the map to select one or more category.

Back in may, I walked into the lab at MCC to find Dr. K being interviewed by 3onyourside.
At the peak of the swine flu hype a Chandler based company was marketing a product that supposedly gave the wearer 24 hour protection from all microbial attack.

Can product really kill germs for 24 hours?

PHOENIX -- Hand sanitizers have been flying off the shelves even since the swine flu outbreak started, but are all of those sprays and gels really as effective as they claim to be? 3 On Your Side decided to put one product to the test. It's called Germ Free 24 and it makes an extraordinary claim. It says it will sanitize and protect your hands for 24 hours or more.

But does it work?

The full story can be found here

I am highly doubtful, especially after our tests, that this product does as it claims. I certainly wouldn't replace washing my hands for it.
I know its old news but it still makes me laugh.
