Napper - Old School Garage Mix

I haven't seen it rain this hard since I left London, and this mix certainly bought back some memories.

"Napper is a Drum and Bass and Dubstep producer living and working in London. He has worked with Stenchman, Buraka Som Sistema, Foamo and Hospital Records as well as a number of other artists on a variety of production projects such as the newly released remix of La Roux's Bulletproof. His first Drum and Bass album is on sale in west London. He is working towards releasing a huge second album consisting both of Dubstep and Drum and Bass after loads of well received tracks on the scene."

[Source: TGen] - Researchers for TGen Clinical Research Services at Scottsdale Healthcare (TCRS) have identified a way to predict which patients with small-cell lung cancer may be resistant to first-line chemotherapy.

The study, Tumor MicroRNA Biomarkers Associated with De Novo Chemoresistance in Small Cell Lung Cancer, will be presented today in San Diego at a joint conference of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC).

This breakthrough is critical since patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) often do not get a second chance at therapies to combat this aggressive type of cancer.

An uneventful day. Spent the morning at new employee orientation, learned about fires, disaster planning and signed up for segway training. Later this afternoon, I worked out that the proximity of the new magnetic stir plate was screwing up my readings. Tonight I'm in, finishing off assignments for that medical anthropology class.

Diplo rounded up some of his favorite friends to remix tracks from Gucci Mane’s “Cold War” mixtape series.

Today was an especially long Monday; it was one of those days where nothing went as planned, and little was achieved. Since I started this job almost 3 weeks ago, things have progressed very smoothly...until today.

It's always fun when using a piece of equipment for the first time with no prior knowledge or understanding of how the device works. Its even more enthralling when using this machine for a slightly different application than it was designed for.

Nonetheless, after an hour or so of tinkering, the vacuum was sufficient enough to hold the glass slides in place and I was ready to attempt spincoating for the first time. Without getting into the details of what I am actually working on, the spincoater's fuse kept acting up, and then I was further stalled when gas ran out. An extremely frustrating morning, however I am determined to get it working tomorrow, though I am unsure it will actually achieve the desired product.

Otherwise, it was a beautiful day. sun was shining, and i received a shiny new digital magnetic stir plate which should help to standardize things somewhat.

As for tonight, I just sent the neighbor out to fetch chipotle, and will probably end up at the Crown Room as usual for a Monday night.

Circumcision associated with significant changes in bacteria

[Source: TGen] - Circumcision, which substantially lowers HIV risk in men, also dramatically changes the bacterial communities of the penis, according to a study led by scientists at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and Johns Hopkins University and published Jan. 6 in the scientific journal PLoS ONE.

And these bacterial changes may also be associated with earlier observations that women whose male partners are circumcised are less likely to develop bacterial vaginosis, an imbalance between good and harmful bacteria.

The study - The Effects of Circumcision on the Penis Microbiome - could lead to new non-surgical HIV preventative strategies for the estimated 70 percent of men worldwide (more than 2 billion) who, because of religious or cultural beliefs, or logistic or financial barriers, are not likely to become circumcised.
